Mustering for War will transport visitors back to the start of the Cousins War, a turbulent and often forgotten era in the Middle Ages, with thrilling 12th century combat, replica weapons, costumes and craft displays.

The Empress Matilda has arrived at Arundel Castle to pursue her claim to the throne of England. Hearing that her cousin Stephen has already been crowned and is hastening towards the coast, Matilda’s forces train to prepare for the forthcoming battle.
Men-at-arms and archers will demonstrate the intense combat training of Norman soldiers on the Castle grounds. Children and parents alike will delight in the opportunity to explore the tented encampment, wield replica 12th century weapons and try on military and civilian garments of the time period.
