Contemporary landscape artist Frances Knight will show her paintings on 2nd-3rd December as part of Arundel's festive event 'Arundel by Candlelight'. Her solo exhibition will include recent plein air works from her travels as well as local Sussex landscapes and seascapes.

Frances works exclusively in oils, usually outside on location, working on larger more abstract paintings once back home in the studio. Her paintings are a joyful expression of light, colour and atmosphere.

'I am inspired by light, painting on location directly from nature,' says Frances. 'Although my paintings show different geographical locations they are linked by the theme of light. They show different qualities of light in different places and seasons - and at different times of the day. The perception of light, how we see it and feel it, is an experience in itself.’

Each year, the historic town of Arundel in West Sussex hosts their increasingly popular Christmas event 'Arundel by Candlelight', elegantly decorated throughout with real Christmas trees and simple white lights. On 2nd December from 12 noon to 7pm, visitors can enjoy the town’s magical lantern parade, festive entertainment featuring traditional carols, Father Christmas, roaming musicians, a Christmas tree lighting ceremony and a selection of vintage amusements and rides.

After graduating from Camberwell School of Art, Frances won a Commonwealth and British Council Scholarship to complete her Master of Fine Arts in India. Frances worked as a professional painter for Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the Beatles' guru, and the Transcendental Meditation organisation, a non-profit charity dedicated to creating world peace, for more than 30 years. Frances has exhibited her work internationally as well as widely across the UK. Her paintings are in private collections in the UK, Europe, the USA, Canada and India.

Frances' exhibition will open 2nd December 12 noon to 6.30pm and 3rd December 12 noon to 5pm at The Victoria Institute, 10 Tarrant Street, Arundel BN18 9DG and other times by arrangement. Current work can also be viewed at the Nigel Rose Gallery in Brighton, and The Little Art Gallery and Autumn Affordable Art Weekend 28-29th October in West Wittering. Visit for further information.
