Arundel Fair Trade & Ethical Christmas Fair
-Perfect place to find those unique Christmas Gifts!-
The Arundel Fairtrade Town Group is delighted to announce the return of the Fair Trade & Ethical Christmas Fair, which will be taking place in Arundel Castle Grounds (West Sussex) on Saturday 1st November 2014 between 10am – 5pm
Comprising more than 50 stalls, everything at the fair is fairly traded or sustainable in some way and among the stalls this year will be old favourites as well as many new traders: Fair Trade scarves from India; clothes from The Fair shop in Brighton; South American soap; Recycled wooden furniture and household items; many styles of bags made locally from reused materials; Fairtrade Mulled Wine.
Fairtrade, Christmas gifts and a nice day out!
If you are interested in promoting Fair trade, concerned about our environment or want to support local, ethical craftspeople then the Arundel Fair Trade and Ethical Fair is the event for you, and it's never too early to think about Christmas presents and the Arundel Fair Trade and Ethical Fair is the perfect way to get a head start.
It’s nice to think that your Christmas gifts this year might give joy and prosperity not only to your friends and family, but also to the producers or craftspeople that created those gifts. Making a few purchases here will promote social justice and support many small independent producers, both locally and from communities in the developing world with greater challenges. The World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO) is set up to help people in the developing world maintain a decent livelihood through fairer trade – simple as that! Coffee, chocolate, bananas great...but there is so much more on offer.
After a break in 2013, the fair this year will be held on the Lower Lawns of Arundel Castle in a setting of marquees and pagoda tents supplied by Ash Kent’s Tents N Events. The Castle and its grounds will make a stunning autumnal backdrop; the perfect setting in which to do some early Christmas shopping. Entry to the Fair is free (usual charges apply to go into the Castle).
Come along to Arundel's Fair Trade and Ethical Christmas Fair and see what inspires you.
NOTES TO EDITORS
- This year marks the 10th Anniversary of Arundel's Fairtrade Town Status -
There’s always something to celebrate in Arundel, and this year marks the 10th Anniversary of Arundel’s Fairtrade Town Status. With the help and support of many residents and businesses in the town and neighbouring villages, the Arundel Fairtrade Town Group has achieved a great deal since campaigning started in 2004. Talks and meetings have raised awareness of Fairtrade products, and how buying them can directly support producers and small communities in the developing world. Businesses here in town have been great at using Fairtrade products where possible, and we now know that doesn’t just mean coffee and bananas!
- Look out for the businesses in town displaying their “10 years - Proud Supporter” window sticker to celebrate our achievement -
The criteria for taking part as a vendor in the Fair:
- Fairtrade (preferably BAFTS registered), Fairly Traded or made from Fairtrade ingredients.
- Made from recycled, remade, repaired, re-used, found or renewable materials.
- Made of organic ingredients.
- Enabling us to reduce our carbon footprint.
- Books or resources which have information about issues of sustainability.
